After studying maps and globes and learning about the different continents and oceans, we decided to make our own globes. In an arts integrated lesson, we first made papier mache forms. We then painted them blue and traced on the continents, before painting them green (except for Antarctica - the students elected to paint that white to better represent the climate of that Southernmost continent). Finally, we labeled our oceans and continents. It was an in-depth process but the students had a lot of fun both learning about geography (one group even made up a song about the continents and taught it to the rest of the class) and art.
